The European Center for Medium-Term Weather Forecasting (ECMWF) is one of the world's leading meteorological organizations, producing and disseminating digital weather forecasts to 34 European countries, collaborating with member countries' meteorological and hydrological services, and enhancing their capabilities.
The initiator of Georgia's membership in the center is the National Environment Agency of the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture.
On December 3, at the 102nd session of the Council of the European Center for Medium-Term Weather Forecasting (ECMWF), Georgia was officially welcomed as the new member of the Center by Director General Florence Gabe, Council President Daniel Glenn and other members of the Council.
"Promoting early warning systems is one of the priorities of the Government of Georgia. Membership in the European Center for Medium-Term Weather Forecasting is an important step forward in climate adaptation, disaster risk reduction and population protection. "ECMWF membership will play an important role in fulfilling national and international obligations in terms of disaster risk reduction and climate adaptation policies," said Nino Tandilashvili, Georgia 's Deputy Minister of Environment and Agriculture.
It is important to note that the cooperation between Georgia and the European Center for Medium-Term Weather Forecasting was financially supported by the Green Climate Fund and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Georgia.
