Pollution

The department offers the following services:

Determining the degree of different level of pollution caused by natural and anthropogenic loads on the territory of Georgia, chemical, biological and microbiological pollution of atmospheric air, waters, atmospheric precipitation, Black Sea and soil through stationary air observation points and expeditions, as well as to make regular observations on the background of natural radiation and to determine the levels of physical factors of the environment (electromagnetic field, noise, etc.);

Creating databases on the quality of the environment and controlling the quality of relevant data;

Providing information about the condition of environmental pollution to state authorities and stakeholders;

Participating in activity to uncover extremely high levels of environmental pollution;

Participating in the review of environmental impact assessment reports of permits for industrial facilities, mandatory documentation under the permit conditions (projects for environmental monitoring and mitigation measures), preparation of relevant remarks, recommendations and conclusions;

Participating in expert commissions established for the purpose of examining the environmental impact assessment report;

Participating in the procedures of environmental inspection of industrial facilities together with the staff of the Department of Environmental Supervision within the scope of competence;

Carrying out on-site measurement work on the basis of complaints received from the local residents;

Participating in work to determine the facts of extremely high levels of environmental pollution within the scope of competence;

Participating in the assessment of the damage caused by emergency environmental situations within the scope of its competence;

Participating in the development and implementation of state targeted programs in the field of anthropogenic threat reduction within the scope of competence;

Develop and implement a system for anthropogenic threat assessment and classification together with the authorized administrative bodies, taking into account the approaches of modern methodologies;

Maintain an information register on anthropogenic hazard mitigation measures and facilitate hazard mapping;

Participating in planning of measures to neutralize sources of historical pollution within the scope of competence;

Preparation of yearbooks, bulletins, reviews, references and other materials containing factual information on environmental pollution;

Investigate and monitor sources of environmental pollution and emissions based on agreements with stakeholders (customers), determine the effectiveness of treatment plants, and dust retention instruments; Development of draft norms for maximum emission and discharge of harmful substances;

Participate in international cooperation in the field of environmental pollution monitoring within the scope of competence;

Within the scope of competence, implantation of the other rights defined by law.
