Air quality monitoring network is being expanded with the support of the Swedish government

A working meeting was held within the framework of the ongoing program "Save Nature - Georgia" funded by the Swedish government.
At the meeting, Acting Head of the National Environment Agency Teimuraz Mtivlishvili, Environmental Programs Officer of the Swedish Embassy Khatuna Zaldastanishvili and members of the project implementing unit of the one of the components of the ’’Save the Nature – Georgia’’ program, discussed the project concept, activities carried out in the inception phase and future plans.
Under the current project supported by the Swedish government, the National Environment Agency will purchase 8 automatic and 1 mobile air quality monitoring stations. The project encompasses the following directions: expansion of the ambient air quality monitoring network, capacity building of the staff responsible for air quality monitoring and raising public awareness regarding air related issues.
At the current stage, a Terms of Reference has been prepared by the project implementing unit and market research has been conducted, as well as technical documents are being prepared for further procedures.
Expansion of the ambient air monitoring network will be an important step forward to improvement of air quality monitoring in Georgia. The project budget is 2 million euros.
