With the support of the European Union, the monitoring of the coastal waters of the Black Sea continues

The specialists of the National Environment Agency of the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture, with the support of the European Union, started the hydro-biological and ecological monitoring of coastal and transitional waters in the maritime space of Georgia.

Researches were carried out in the part of the Kobuleti-Anaklia aquatoria of the Black Sea coast of Georgia and on Lake Paliastom. Agency specialists and project experts took water and bottom sediment samples for hydrochemical and hydrobiological analysis at pre-selected research stations. Based on the obtained results, the ecological condition of the research areas will be assessed.

Within the framework of the project "European Union for the Environment - Water Resources and Environmental Data (EU4WD)" funded by the European Union, the National Environment Agency conducts hydro-biological and ecological monitoring of coastal and transitional waters in the maritime space of Georgia. The main goal of the project is to develop basin and coastal water management plans and support environmental monitoring activities in Eastern Partnership countries, including Georgia.

The implementation of the project will contribute to the improvement of coastal and surface water monitoring systems in Georgia, the implementation of basin management plans, the implementation of the environmental principles of the EU Water and Marine Strategy Framework Directives.

The partners of the mentioned project are the Austrian Environment Agency (UBA), the Austrian Development Agency (ADA), the Office International De L'eau (OiEau), the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE).
