Geologists of the agency, together with an international expert, examined landslide-prone areas
Geology
For specialists of the Department of Geology of the National Environmental Agency of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, an international expert conducted a theoretical and practical lesson on the preparation of a detailed map of the landslide hazard of the local area using modern techniques.
As part of the expedition, specialists together with an expert examined 11 landslide sites selected throughout the country, where modern monitoring systems were installed with the support of the project. At this stage, the specified system is working in test mode. Through the system, landslide deformations are recorded with high accuracy, which is important for the safety of the local population, as well as for the correct planning of infrastructure and economic activities.
The project is implemented by the Government of Georgia and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) with the support of the Green Climate Fund, the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA). The program aims to reduce the risk of floods, landslides and other hydrometeorological and geological disasters caused by climate change and ensure maximum protection of the population and infrastructure.
