Statement of the National Environmental Agency on the state of the Black Sea
Environmental pollution monitoring
The National Environmental Agency of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture conducts monthly monitoring of the Black Sea water quality at 9 stations, thereby determining the main physical and chemical parameters, including salinity, as well as the content of dissolved oxygen and nutrients in the water. Studies of heavy metals and organic pollutants in the surface and bottom layers have been carried out.
In accordance with the EU Marine Strategy Framework Directive, the National Environmental Agency is improving its monitoring systems. At this stage, laboratory equipment of modern standards has already been purchased, with the help of which it is possible to determine specific pollutants with high accuracy.
According to laboratory studies conducted by the National Environmental Agency, the quality of sea water around the entire perimeter is within the normal range.
