Teams of specialists from the National Environmental Agency of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture remain in the disaster zone to assess the extent of damage caused to homesteads and homes of citizens by landslides, and continue to study the situation in the region. Experts will give recommendations for further action on the ground.

In the municipalities of Ozurgeti and Lanchkhuti, as at 9 September, 18 infrastructures, 19 localities and 80 family estates and houses had been assessed. Thirty-five families were also recommended to move to geologically stable locations.

It is known that on September 8, during night hours, heavy rainfall on Guria and Adjara caused a significant increase in the level of water on rivers, floods on small rivers, the beginning and intensification of landslides in mountain areas

Here it should be noted that mountain Guria due to natural hazards is one of the most difficult territories, especially in the last 10-15 years.

At this stage, according to studies conducted by the agency’s specialists, the level of danger in the Guria region has decreased compared to the first day of the disaster.

Also starting this morning, experts from the National Environmental Agency conducted a helicopter tour of the Samegrelo-Zemo-Svaneti region, in the Magana River catchment area, where congestion was reported. Verification of the Magana River valley and its tributaries revealed no signs of congestion and no landslide gravity processes.
