World Water Quality Monitoring Day is celebrated on September 18
World Water Monitoring Day was established by the American Clean Water Foundation (ACWF) in 2003 and has been celebrated annually since then. The National Environmental Agency of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia has taken important steps towards improving water quality monitoring - the monitoring network is expanding, the number of defined parameters is increasing.
To date, the agency controls surface water at 231 points throughout the year, and groundwater freshwater is monitored in 68 water intakes, including 62 wells and 6 springs.
With regard to the expansion of the hydrological network, some 60 sites have been observed over the past 10 years. The National Environmental Protection Agency also monitors the water quality of the Black Sea. Water chemistry is determined by research.
Water quality studies are conducted in the Atmospheric, Water and Soil Analysis Laboratory of the National Environmental Protection Agency, which is equipped with high-tech analytical equipment and fully meets modern requirements. The laboratory is accredited according to the international standard ISO17025.
The celebration of World Water Monitoring Day on 18 September is aimed at raising public awareness and involvement in water management and protection.
