Environmental pollution monitoring
A new automatic station was added in the city of Rustavi as part of the project «Save Nature - Georgia» of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture and the The Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA) of the Government of the Kingdom of Sweden. By the end of 2023, the air quality monitoring network of the National Environmental Agency will be expanded with 8 automatic and 1 mobile stations.
The expansion of the air monitoring network is an important step towards improving air quality monitoring in Georgia. In recent years, the Government of Georgia has taken several important steps both in the legislative sphere and in the implementation of practical measures. The support of the international community, which is aimed at strengthening the country’s capacities in this regard, should be emphasized," said Vasil Gedevanishvili, head of the National Environmental Protection Agency.
Mayor of Rustavi Nino Latsabidze addressed the meeting participants and noted that support of partner organizations is invaluable.
“Already in New Rustavi we will have a modern air quality monitoring station from which we will receive information 24 hours a day. This will allow us to plan new activities and projects in this direction“- said Nino Latsabidze.
Data from the station will be posted on the www.air.gov.ge.
«I am glad that today we are in Rustavi and open the air quality monitoring station. I would like to thank the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture and the National Environment Agency for this important work, which the Government of Sweden will continue to support so that Georgia has an appropriate air quality monitoring system. Ensuring high quality standards for citizens is the main aspect of Georgia’s integration into the European Union», said Mr Erik Iles, Head of Development Cooperation at the Swedish Embassy in Georgia, Deputy Head of Mission.
The event was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, the National Environmental Agency, international organizations, the state and non-governmental sectors.
