Working Visit to the Czech Republic

Within the framework of the "Save the Nature - Georgia" program, the Deputy Head of the National Environmental Agency, Ms. Maia Beradze, together with the Agency’s specialists and representatives of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, participated in a working visit to the Czech Republic.

During the visit, working meetings were held with representatives of the Czech Ministry of Environmental Protection, the Environmental Protection Inspection, and the State Environmental Fund. At the meetings, the parties discussed current environmental challenges and visions.

The representatives of the Agency received recommendations from their Czech counterparts regarding environmental legislation, its practical implementation, the inventory of historically polluted sites, the activities of the State Environmental Fund, and the remediation processes of damaged areas, as well as European approaches, challenges, and development trends in this direction.

Within the framework of the visit, the representatives of the agency inspected damaged areas at an oil refinery and a glass factory. The parties discussed current and planned measures for remediating the damage caused to the environment.

The knowledge gained during the visit will be an important step forward in advancing the implementation of international best practices and European standards in the process of restoration of damaged areas, in line with the European approaches outlined in the "Law on Environmental Liability".

The "Save the Nature - Georgia" program, implemented by the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia with the support of the Swedish government, has been successfully running since 2021. The project carries out various important activities in the environmental direction, including the expansion of the ambient air quality monitoring network in Georgia, the improvement of air quality, the sustainable management of natural resources, promoting protection and restoration of biodiversity, and strengthening the institutional capacity of the Ministry and its agencies.
