An Annual Bulletin on Natural Geological Processes Prepared by the National Environmental Agency

The National Environmental Agency has prepared the information bulletin titled "Results of the Development of Natural Geological Processes in Georgia in 2023 and Forecast for 2024".
This bulletin titled "Results of the Development of Natural Geological Processes in Georgia in 2023 and Forecast for 2024”[IJ1] , prepared by specialists from the Geology Department of the National Environmental Agency under the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, provides information on geological hazards identified through geological monitoring and surveys conducted during periods of extreme activation of phenomena, including landslides, mudslides, rock avalanches, rock falls, and others.
The mentioned bulletin includes information on identified areas affected by geological processes, where recommendations had been made for carrying out protective measures.
As a result of [IJ2] geological surveys carried out throughout the country the last year, specialists of the National Environmental Agency prepared 886 visual engineering-geological reports, evaluated 1545 settlements, 3972 residential houses and farm plots. Besides, 105 infrastructure facilities were assessed and relevant recommendations were issued. It is worth noting that in disaster areas, the advance evaluation of homesteads, residential houses, and infrastructure facilities is one of the main components of the Early Warning System.
The bulletin is accompanied by specialized maps of geological hazards per individual regions and municipalities of Georgia.
The information presented in the bulletin is essential for the management of the developed natural geological processes, which implies fast and coordinated work by the relevant agencies, their immediate involvement in liquidation works and timely informing of the population.
