The National Environmental Agency of the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, within the framework of cooperation with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), continues large-scale studies in order to assess the state of the rapana population in the marine space of Georgia.
According to the General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean (GFCM), Rapana is a priority species in the Black Sea, making its comprehensive study in the territorial waters of Georgia highly important.
Research is being conducted systematically in the Gonio-Anaklia area along the Black Sea coast of Georgia. Sampling was carried out at 23 pre-selected marine stations.
In the mentioned studies, a modern standard tool was utilized, which was provided to the Department of Fisheries, Aquaculture, and Aquatic Biodiversity of the Agency by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).
Rapana is a sought-after product, with sales taking place globally. Research on rapana represents an important step forward. This study will gather information about the resources of the Black Sea rapana population, including their distribution, abundance, and size-age structure.
These studies will contribute to the assessment of Rapana resources in Georgia and the determination of industrial prospects.
