Cooperation with the General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean (FAO/GFCM) continues

The specialist of the National Environmental Agency, within the framework of cooperation with the General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO/GFCM), attended the workshops organized by the GFCM in the format of the Black Sea Working Group and the Subregional Group on Stocks Assessment in Romania, Turkey, and Georgia.

At the meetings, the models for stock assessment, age-structural, abundance and natural mortality, growth, and population assessment of priority species of Black Sea fish, including anchovy and European sprat, were discussed. Also, an updated assessment of the status of fish stocks was made, and relevant recommendations were made. The participants also discussed the growth parameters, maturity, tophi, and natural mortality of fish species.

The involvement of agency specialists in these meetings enhances their professional development, facilitates the exchange of international experience, and promotes the adoption of innovative approaches to the assessment of biological resources and sustainable fishing practices in the country.
