The National Environmental Agency, by auction, issued a five-year license for the use of Galanthus (snowdrop) bulbs.
Galanthus (snowdrop) bulbs are exported from Georgia to the European Union, and the largest quantity is exported to Holland.
As maintained by the condition of the issued license, the Galanthus (snowdrop) bulbs will be harvested and exported according to the annual quota. The final price of the resource determined by the quota at the auction compiled 440,000 GEL. The local population will be employed in the resource extraction process.
Galanthus (snowdrop) bulb is included in the appendices of the ,,Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES)’’. The mentioned convention regulates the issues of international trade in endangered species of wild fauna and flora and is a multilateral agreement for the protection of endangered plants and animals.
