Organized by the Department of Fisheries, aquaculture and aquatic biodiversity of the National Environmental Agency, with the support of the General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean (GFCM) of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization, a working meeting was held between interested parties within the framework of the ongoing project “Awareness raising and data collecting on the selected species of Georgia”.
At the meeting, the results of the research carried out by the specialists of the agency were discussed, the purpose of which was to assess the leve of ecological awareness of Small-Scale Fisheries, current state of the sector and to present the problems in the field.
The mentioned research is an important step forward, which will contribute to the sustainable management of marine resources in the Black Sea region, ensure the conservation of living marine resources and their rational use.
The meeting was attended by the representatives of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, the department of Licensing of the National Environmental Agency, the Department of Fisheries, Aquaculture and Aquatic Biodiversity, and the Conventional Division of Black Sea Protection of the Environmental Supervision, also local small-scale fisheries were attending.
It worth noting that the National Environmental Agency in the format of close cooperation with General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean (GFCM) has been actively implementing awareness raising campaign for the second year in order to reduce the entaglementin household nets of the vulnerable and priority species, dolphins, sturgeons, Squalus acanthias of the Black Sea.
