A working meeting of ECMWF experts group in the Agency

Hydrometeorology

A working meeting with representatives of the European Center for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) expert group was held at the National Environmental Agency.

The experts evaluated the current situation in the direction of forecasting and early warning of the agency and introduced the modern forecast products of ECMWF to the specialists of the Hydrometeorology Department. Within the framework of the working visit, trainings were held for the Agency's specialists in the direction of using modern technologies of climate data and prognostic products.

The European Center for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) is one of the world's leading organizations in the field of meteorology, which produces and distributes digital weather forecasts for 34 European member countries, cooperates with the meteorological and hydrological services of the member countries and promotes their capacity building.

Georgia became an associate member of ECMWF in December 2021. It is important to note that the cooperation between Georgia and the European Center for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts takes place within the framework of the Climate Initiative of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), which is supported by the Green Climate Fund (GCF) and the governments of Georgia, Sweden and Switzerland.

As a result of the ongoing collaboration, the Agency continuously receives ECMWF's up-to-date meteorological data and forecast products, which are critical for improving the accuracy of weather forecasts and increasing the effectiveness of Early Warning Systems in Georgia.
