Ecosystem studies are underway in the Georgian waters of the Black Sea

Aquaculture

Specialists of the Fisheries, Aquaculture and Aquatic Biodiversity Department of the National Environmental Agency of the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture are conducting research at 20 pre-selected stations in the coastal waters of Georgia of the Black Sea using a European standard tool - demersal trawl.

This research is important for the study of the Black Sea ecosystem and aims to contribute to the collection of data on priority fish species of the Black Sea, which will ensure the introduction of sustainable fisheries principles in the region.

The research is being carried out within the framework of the project "Experimental Demersal Trawl Research in Georgian Waters" and involves taking high-precision samples at different depths of the sea.

This equipment, a demersal trawl, was provided to the National Environmental Agency within the framework of the FishEBM BS project https:  https://www.fao.org/gfcm/about/funding/gef/fishebm-black-sea funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF). Demersal surveys are carried out with the technical and financial support of the General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean (GFCM) of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).
