The National Environmental Agency of the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture conducted a study of the water quality and biodiversity of the Black Sea.

In accordance with the requirements of the European Union Water Framework Directive (WFD), the Agency’s specialists took samples at 15 points in the Georgian Black Sea. Chemical-physical parameters were determined on site, and biological and chemical analyses will be carried out in the Agency’s laboratory, which is equipped with high-precision analytical instruments and fully meets modern requirements and standards. The results will be published upon completion of the laboratory studies.

The studies aim to improve the environmental monitoring system of the Black Sea coast and continental shelf of Georgia in accordance with the requirements of the European Union Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD) and the Water Framework Directive (WFD).

The research was carried out within the framework of the ongoing project “Innovative Joint Training for Developing Environmentally Friendly Behavior of Communities Living in the Black Sea Basin” at the Agency.

The project is co-financed by the European Union within the framework of the “Interreg NEXT Black Sea Basin Programme” and its goal is to improve the environmentally friendly behavior of citizens, implement environmental protection activities and reduce pollution in the regions of the Black Sea Basin.

It is worth noting that the National Environmental Agency conducts continuous research on the quality of water in the Black Sea.
