June 5 is World Environment Day
On June 5, in connection with World Environment Day, the National Environment Agency carried out various activities in Batumi to raise environmental awareness.
As part of the activities, a cleaning campaign was held on the Batumi coastline, in which local schoolchildren participated.
A demonstration of a drone collecting waste in water was held for representatives of local environmental agencies.
The above activities were attended by the Head of the National Environment Agency, Elene Ghubianuri, Deputy Head of the Agency, Davit Mujirishvili, representatives of the Batumi Municipality City Hall, Sanitation LLC, and the Ministry of Agriculture of Adjara.
“The innovative drone collecting waste from the water surface is a modern technology for protecting the sea from pollution, which has been tested in a number of European countries and, we believe, will significantly assist the relevant services in carrying out cleaning activities on the Black Sea. I would also like to note that it is important for us to raise public awareness in the field of environmental protection. For this purpose, within the framework of the project “Innovative Joint Training to Form Environmentally Friendly Behavior of Communities Living in the Black Sea Basin”, target groups have been selected in the partner countries bordering the Black Sea: Turkey, Bulgaria, Romania and Georgia, for whom environmental educational and awareness-raising campaigns are planned,” said Elene Ghubianuri.
Events related to World Environment Day were held within the framework of the project “Innovative Joint Training to Form Environmentally Friendly Behavior of Communities Living in the Black Sea Basin”.
The project is co-financed by the European Union within the framework of the, ,,Interreg NEXT Black Sea Basin Programme” and aims to raise environmental awareness among citizens and reduce pollution in the Black Sea Basin regions.
A number of events were held by the agencies within the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture to mark World Environment Day. The National Forestry Agency, within the framework of the volunteer platform “Forest Friend”, held a large-scale clean-up campaign in the vicinity of the Jvari Monastery; in Lagodekhi, the Agency for Protected Areas held the final event of the educational project “I Protect the Nature of My Country”.
