The National Environment Agency is actively working to improve air quality monitoring
Environmental pollution monitoring
The National Environment Agency of the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture is actively working to improve monitoring of air quality in the country. In the framework of the project "Improving Air Quality Management Capacities in Georgia", an international expert Ruta Kurien developed a system for forecasting emissions into the air and prepared emission forecasts for 2025, 2030; A two-day training was held for the staff of the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, the National Statistics Office and the National Environment Agency. During the training, participants were introduced to information on emissions forecasting, which will allow them to forecast independently, with no extra cost.
Improving Air Quality Management Capacities in Georgia is implemented by the National Environment Agency within the framework of the UNDP Governance Reform Fund (UNDP-GRF) project, with the support of the Government of Sweden. It is noteworthy that within the framework of the project, a report on the inventory of emissions of harmful substances into the air in 1990-2018 was prepared, which will be submitted to the Secretariat of the Convention on Long-range Transboundary Air Pollution (Air Convention).
Emissions inventory is one of the essential tools for producing the right air protection policy, which allows to identify the main sources of pollution. At the same time, by submitting an improved report to the Secretariat of the Air Convention, the country will fulfill its international obligation.
