Statement regarding the events in the Devdoraki Valley

Hydrometeorology

According to the National Environmental Agency, the threat level in the Devdoraki valley is currently minimal - the water level has returned to its original level, and flash floods and mudslides are no longer being recorded. The agency has issued a recommendation to open the road.

According to the National Environmental Agency of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, on July 31 of this year, a mudslide process was detected by the warning system located in the Devdorak valley; the system immediately transmitted an alarm signal to the Larsi border checkpoint; road traffic was promptly restricted.

In order to assess additional threats, specialists from the National Environmental Agency conducted a survey of the Devdorak-Amal Valley using drones and assessed the expected threats.

The abundant atmospheric precipitation in Kazbegi municipality, in the tributaries of the Tergi River, led to the formation of mudslides. In this regard, the valleys of the Kuro and Chkhere rivers and the high-density mudslide developed in the right tributary of the Tergi River near the village of Tsdo are particularly noteworthy, which temporarily blocked the river. Tergi riverbed. At the moment, the dam is open and does not pose a threat to the valley. Also, a powerful mudflow occurred in the riverbed of the Amali-Devdoraki river, however, it did not affect the infrastructure facilities in the Dariali valley.

For information, the effectiveness of such an alarm system has been tested and approved for valleys located near road infrastructure. This system allows, if necessary, to limit the movement of road transport in the shortest possible time.
