The water quality of the Black Sea is within acceptable standards along the entire coastline of Georgia
Environmental pollution monitoring
The National
Environment Agency continuously monitors the quality of Black Sea water.
Studies are conducted monthly at 12 locations and determine various seawater
parameters, including 13 heavy metals, total petroleum hydrocarbons, 16
polyaromatic hydrocarbons, as well as concentrations of other physical and
chemical parameters.
Samples
taken from the Black Sea are sent to the National Environment Agency’s
accredited laboratory for the analysis of atmospheric air, water, and soil,
which is equipped with high-precision instruments and fully complies with
modern standards.
According
to laboratory studies conducted by the Agency to date, the quality of Black Sea
water along the entire coastline of Georgia is within acceptable standards.
It
is worth noting that the National Environment Agency continues to actively work
on improving the monitoring system in accordance with the EU Marine Strategy
Framework Directive.
The results of laboratory studies conducted by the National Environment Agency are published on the Agency’s official website.
