A working meeting was held on the development of multiple hazard risk management plans for Georgia’s river basins

Organized by the National Environmental Agency, a consultative meeting was held on the development of multiple hazard risk management plans for river basins in Georgia.

The Agency’s Director Elene Ghubiani, Deputy Minister of Infrastructure Mzia Giorgobiani, and Douglas Webb, the Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Georgia attended the meeting.

The parties discussed the multiple hazard risk management plans prepared last year for four river basins in Georgia (Supsa, Natanebi, Kintrishi, Khobistskali) within the framework of the project.

By 2026, similar plans are planned to be developed for the remaining seven basins, of which three (Enguri, Rioni, Chorokhi-Adjaristskali) are located in western Georgia, and four (Mtkvari, Alazani, Iori, Khrami-Ktsia) are in eastern Georgia.

This initiative is implemented with the support of the UNDP and funded by the Green Climate Fund (GCF) as part of the ongoing project “Scaling-up Multi-Hazard Early Warning System and the Use of Climate Information in Georgia.” The project aims to develop risk management and mitigation measures for multiple climate-induced hazards (floods, landslides, avalanches, mudflows, droughts, hail, and strong winds) for 11 river basins in Georgia.

The initiative is part of a large-scale climate program carried out by the Government of Georgia and UNDP, funded by the Green Climate Fund (GCF), as well as by Georgia, Sweden, and Switzerland.
