Aquaculture

Specialists from the Environmental Information and Education Center of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, within the framework of the National Black Sea Monitoring Program, conducted a marine expedition in the Gonio–Anaklia aquatory.

Approximately 200 samples of seawater and bottom sediments were collected by the Agency’s specialists using modern standards and specialized equipment. The collected samples were sent to the National Environment Agency’s internationally accredited laboratories.

The analysis of the materials and data processing will be carried out in stages, involving a long-term scientific research process. The final results on the environmental condition of the studied aquatory will be available in the form of a special report after the complete processing and evaluation of the data.

The research will determine the physical, chemical, and biological parameters of the sea, as well as qualitative and quantitative indicators of organisms.

The studies will enable timely detection and assessment of ecological changes occurring in the marine environment as a result of both natural factors and human activities.

These studies aim to assess the environmental condition of Georgia’s Black Sea coast and continental shelf in accordance with the requirements of the EU Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD) and the Water Framework Directive (WFD).
