Agency representatives participated in the Congress of the World Meteorological Organization held in Geneva
Hydrometeorology
Deputy Head of the National Environmental Agency, Irakli Megrelidze, together with representatives of the Agency’s relevant departments, attended a congress held in Geneva, Switzerland, with the support of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO).
The purpose of the congress was to discuss the issues presented by the WMO Executive Council, as well as the initiative “Early Warnings for All” (EW4All).
Discussions were held on climate and hydrometeorological risks, focusing on mechanisms for the development and strengthening of global early warning systems.
Within the framework of the congress, a working meeting was held on the development of regional multi-hazard early warning systems (MHEWS) in the South Caucasus, with participation from representatives of Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Kazakhstan.
At the meeting, participants discussed mechanisms for the exchange of meteorological and hydrological data at the regional level, strengthening coordination related to transboundary risks, preparing project proposals on droughts, enhancing monitoring and early warning, as well as specific steps to improve early warning systems and future cooperation among the parties.
