Hydrometeorology

Irakli Megrelidze, Deputy Head of the National Environmental Agency, has been appointed as the Regional Hydrological Adviser for Europe within the World Meteorological Organization (WMO).

The nomination of the Georgian delegate for this position took place at a congress held in Geneva, Switzerland, supported by the WMO, where he was endorsed by the Bureau and the Committee.

It should be noted that since 2017, Irakli Megrelidze has held the position of Advisor to the Permanent Representative of Georgia to the World Meteorological Organization. (WMO)

Irakli Megrelidze's appointment to this position represents significant recognition of both his many years of professional experience and Georgia's level of regional and international hydrological cooperation.

The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) operates in the fields of meteorology, climatology, and hydrology. Particularly significant is WMO's role in climate change research. The data and analytical tools provided by the organization help countries assess climate risks and plan long-term development strategies.

It should be noted that Georgia has been a member of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) for almost 30 years, which gives the country the opportunity to be involved in international cooperation, receive modern knowledge and technologies, and strengthen its own meteorological system, which is important for the country's sustainable development and population safety.
