Representatives of the National Environmental Agency attended a working meeting in Cairo within the framework of the European Union’s Research and Innovation Programme
Representatives of the National Environmental Agency participated in the annual meeting of consortium member organizations of the project “MedEWSa – Mediterranean and European Forecasting and Early Warning Systems Against Natural Hazards,” implemented under the European Union’s Research and Innovation Programme “Horizon 2020.” The meeting was held in Cairo, Arab Republic of Egypt.
During the meeting, participants discussed the activities implemented, ongoing, and planned in relation to flood and landslide hazards. The parties shared knowledge and experience in the areas of monitoring and managing these risks.
The project aims to improve early warning systems for climate change–intensified natural hazards across Europe, the Mediterranean, and Africa, as well as to strengthen the capacities of governmental and civil society organizations.
It is noteworthy that within the framework of the project “MedEWSa – Mediterranean and European Forecasting and Early Warning Systems Against Natural Hazards,” the National Environmental Agency cooperates with the Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute. Accordingly, pilot areas have been selected in Tbilisi and the Slovak city of Košice, where the introduction of flood and landslide monitoring and early warning systems is planned.
