Marina Mgeladze, Head of the Fisheries, Aquaculture and Water Biodiversity Department of the National Environmental Agency, and Guranda Makharadze, Specialist of the same Department, attended a Committee meeting held in Trabzon at the Central Fisheries Research Institute (SUMAE) within the framework of the Global Environment Facility (GEF) regional project “Fisheries and Ecosystem-Based Management for the Black Sea (FishEBM BS).”

During the meeting, the key results achieved by the project over the past year, the challenges identified in the course of implementation, and the mechanisms for addressing them were comprehensively reviewed.

The Steering Committee approved the work plan and the corresponding budget for the current year. It was noted that the project will continue to provide institutional and technical support to Georgia in strengthening and implementing the principles of sustainable fisheries and ecosystem-based management.

With the support of the project, studies of demersal fish species and the mollusk rapa whelk are planned, as well as training activities aimed at harmonizing hydroacoustic research methods and conducting joint scientific expeditions across the Black Sea region.

These activities will significantly contribute to strengthening sustainable principles in Georgia’s fisheries sector, ensuring the long-term protection and rational use of marine resources.
