Updated Statement on the Geological processes in the village of Kursebi, Tkibuli Municipality

Geology

On march 12, 2026, in the village of Kursebi in the Tkibuli Municipality, a landslide developed on the left slope of the Tskaltsitela River.

The landslide covered approximately 58 hectares , as a result of which up to 40 local residents household plots and residential houses were affected and found themselves within the disaster zone.

Relevant state services, with the involvement of geologists from the National Environmental Agency, promptly ensured the safe evacuation of the population from the disaster zone.

In the force majeure situation, the assessment of each citizen’s household plot and residential house is underway, based on which geological conclusions are being promptly provided to the relevant authorities.

According to the preliminary assessment, at this stage 10 residential houses have been completely destroyed, while to others have sustained varying degrees of damage.

The landslide also damaged a section of the Kutaisi (Motsamela) – Tkibuli- Ambrolauri highway as well as the village cemetery.

In different years, geologists from Agency have assessed both infrastructure facilities and household plots in the territory in the village on Kursebi and issued appropriate recommendations.

Agency specialists remain on site and continue monitoring both the disaster zone and the surrounding areas.
