A consultative meeting was held, organized by the National Environmental Agency, on the preparation of multi-hazard risk management plans for seven river basins in Georgia.

The meeting was attended by the Deputy Head of the Agency, Irakli Megrelishvili, Head of the Environment and Energy Unit of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Nino Antadze, as well as representatives of various government agencies and municipalities.

The aim of the meeting was to present stakeholders with the validation process and results of multi-hazard risk assessments for seven river basins, in order to support the prioritization of high-risk communities.

The validation process is designed to refine identified risks through engagement with representatives of selected high-risk communities, confirm vulnerable areas, and gather additional local information.

This initiative is being implemented with the support of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and is funded by the Green Climate Fund (Green Climate Fund). It is carried out within the ongoing project titled “Scaling up Multi-Hazard Early Warning System and Use of Climate Information in Georgia,” which aims to develop risk management and mitigation measures for climate-induced hazards such as floods, mudflows, avalanches, landslides, droughts, hail, and strong winds across 11 river basins in Georgia.

This initiative is part of a broader large-scale climate program implemented by the Government of Georgia and UNDP, with funding from the Green Climate Fund, as well as contributions from Georgia, Sweden, and Switzerland.
