The Head of the Meteorology Department of the National Environmental Agency, Ramaz Chitanava, attended the plenary session of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) in Bangkok, Thailand.

The session primarily discussed updates to the IPCC’s governing principles and procedures. These updates are intended to support the preparation of climate change assessments that are neutral, objective, transparent, inclusive, and scientifically reliable.

The meeting also addressed the timeline for preparing the Seventh Assessment Report.

The upcoming IPCC assessment is expected to significantly support Georgia in implementing effective national climate policy, particularly in mitigating potential negative impacts of climate change and developing scientifically based adaptation measures.

The IPCC, established in 1988 by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), is the leading international body for assessing climate change. It brings together 195 member states and evaluates scientific, technical, and socio-economic information related to climate risks, impacts, adaptation options, and mitigation strategies.
