A specialist from the Department of Fisheries, Aquaculture, and Aquatic
Biodiversity of the National Environmental Agency attended an international
workshop on determining the age of Black Sea turbot, held at the Fisheries
Research Center in the city of Trabzon, Turkey.
The aim of the workshop was to harmonize
methodologies for determining the age of turbot among countries of the Black
Sea basin. This process will significantly contribute to more accurate stock
assessments and the development of scientifically grounded recommendations.
During the meeting, participants discussed
modern techniques for age determination, approaches to standardizing sample
processing and analysis, as well as mechanisms for data quality control.
Alongside the representative of the National
Environmental Agency, regional experts from Turkey, Bulgaria, Romania, and
Ukraine also participated in the event.
Participation
in this international workshop represents an important step toward
strengthening the sustainable management of fish resources in the Black Sea
region and promoting the sharing of best international practices.
