A specialist from the National Environmental Agency discussed the assessment of fisheries impacts at a meeting of the Vulnerable Species Working Group

A specialist from the Fisheries, Aquaculture and Water Biodiversity Department of the National Environmental Agency participated in a meeting of the Vulnerable Species Working Group held in Rome, with the support of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations’ General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean (FAO/GFCM).
The aim of the meeting was to assess the impact of fisheries on vulnerable species in the Mediterranean and Black Sea regions, including seabirds, sea turtles, marine mammals, and elasmobranchs (sharks and related species), and to develop appropriate measures for their protection.
Within the framework of the meeting, participants discussed ways to improve monitoring and data collection, effective mechanisms to reduce bycatch, and modern management approaches.
Alongside the representative of the National Environmental Agency, experts from countries of the Mediterranean and Black Sea basins also participated in the event, ensuring the exchange of experience and a comprehensive discussion of regional challenges and opportunities.
