Environmental pollution monitoring
Marina Arabidze, Head of the
Environmental Pollution Monitoring Department of the National Environmental
Agency, attended the Global Atmosphere Watch (GAW) Symposium in Geneva,
organized by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO). The event brought
together up to 300 international experts from 70 countries.
Within the framework of the
symposium, modern approaches to atmospheric observation were discussed, along
with the latest trends in modeling and forecasting. Particular attention was
paid to issues related to ozone layer protection, measures to improve air
quality, the development of early warning systems for sand and dust storms, and
the strengthening of monitoring.
Participants of the event also
took part in thematic discussions and focus groups, which included individual
meetings and the exchange of experiences among experts from different
countries.
As part of the symposium, priority areas for the future activities of the World Meteorological Organization’s (WMO) Global Atmosphere Watch (GAW) Programme were defined, which will contribute to a better understanding of atmospheric processes and to strengthening international cooperation in the field of environmental protection.
