The working meeting was held in Poti on issues related to the development of fisheries and aquaculture

Representatives of the National
Environmental Agency and the fisheries sector met in the city of Poti with
Denis Reiss, an officer of the European Union Delegation responsible for the
agriculture portfolio.
The purpose of the meeting was to
share information on the progress achieved in the fields of fisheries and
aquaculture and to discuss existing challenges. Particular attention was paid to
the scientific research fishing activities carried out by the Agency’s
specialists, as well as to the introduction of modern methodologies aligned
with European Union standards.
The parties also discussed
opportunities for strengthening international cooperation, including
collaboration with the General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean.
Within the framework of the
discussions, ongoing and planned legislative reforms in both the fisheries and
aquaculture sectors were reviewed, aiming at ensuring the sustainable
development of the sector and its harmonization with international standards.
Additionally, attention was focused on measures to promote the export of marine
fisheries products to the European Union market.
As part of the meeting, participants
visited local marine and fisheries infrastructure, Georgian fishing vessels,
and fish processing enterprises.
The working meeting, organized by the National Environmental Agency, was held at the Poti branch of the State Maritime Academy and was attended by representatives of the Agency’s Licensing and Permits Department, as well as the Fisheries, Aquaculture and Water Biodiversity Departments, employees of the Environmental Supervision Department, and representatives of the fisheries sector — fishermen, license holders, and captains of fishing vessels.
