Representatives of the National Environmental Agency attended a workshop organized by the Asian Development Bank (ADB)
Hydrometeorology
The Head of the Hydrometeorology
Department of the National Environmental Agency, Ramaz Chitanava, and the Head
of the Hydrology Department, Ioseb Kinkladze, participated in a regional
workshop held in Astana, Republic of Kazakhstan. The meeting was organized
within the framework of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) program “From Glaciers
to Farms.”
The main objective of the meeting
was to support the implementation of the program, review its current stages,
identify priority areas, and share the experiences of participating countries.
As part of the discussions,
particular attention was paid to the risks caused by climate change. The impact
of glacier degradation on agriculture, the intensity of natural hazards, water
resources, and related challenges were also discussed.
In addition, the meeting addressed mechanisms for monitoring and evaluating the program, approaches to planning investment projects, and opportunities for strengthening regional cooperation. Special emphasis was placed on the importance of climate adaptation, water resource management, and the development of early warning systems.
