The National Environmental Agency held working meetings in Poti and Batumi with representatives of the Black Sea fisheries sector.

The main objective of the meetings was to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the current situation in the sector, identify key problems and challenges, and discuss ways to address them. Participants discussed pressing issues in the field and emphasized the importance of improving data collection and monitoring systems.

Within the framework of the meetings, the activities carried out by the General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean (GFCM) were also reviewed, including the progress and results of the projects “BlackSea4Fish” and “FishEBM.” The role of these initiatives in the sustainable use of Black Sea bioresources and the development of the sector was highlighted.

The meetings were attended by representatives of the Fisheries, Aquaculture, and Water Biodiversity Department of the National Environmental Agency, GFCM experts Huseyin Ozbilgin and Timucin Dincer, as well as active fishers and representatives of fisheries organizations.

The meetings were held within the framework of the project “Monitoring and Data Collection in the Black Sea Fisheries Sector of Georgia,” implemented by the National Environmental Agency in cooperation with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).
