The Deputy Head of the National Environmental Agency took the ambassadors to tour the Poti Aerological Station

The Deputy Head of the National Environmental Agency, Irakli Megrelidze, together with the UN Resident Coordinator Didier Tghebiuk, visited the Poti aerological station for the ambassadors of Switzerland, the United Kingdom, Sweden and the United Arab Emirates.

The purpose of the visit was to familiarize themselves with the component implemented in Georgia within the framework of the large-scale project “Reducing the Risk of Disasters Caused by Climate Change in Georgia”, funded by the Green Climate Fund, the Swedish and Swiss governments, with the support of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).

The invited guests visited the first modern atmospheric sensing system in Georgia and got acquainted with the process of operating a radiosonde on site.

The aerological observation station measures meteorological parameters in the upper atmosphere: wind speed and direction, air temperature and humidity, which are needed for the most accurate forecast of weather and natural events, climate analysis, as well as for agricultural production, water resources management, aviation, early warning of multi-faceted threats, etc.

It is noteworthy that the aerological station was installed within the framework of the Climate Resilience Program implemented in partnership with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the National Environment Agency, with the support of the Green Climate Fund (GCF).
