Specialists of the National Environmental Agency, together with Swiss experts, carried out a field expedition in Mestia Municipality

Within the framework of the ongoing project “Strengthening Climate Change Adaptation Capacities in Georgia Phase 2” at the National Environmental Agency, Swiss experts Markus Zimmermann, Ricarda Bendegal and Andrew Kos visited Mestia Municipality.

The Swiss experts, together with representatives of the Hydrology Department, discussed the avalanche and flood hazard maps developed for Mestia Municipality.

As part of the field expedition, the experts visited the automatic hydrometeorological stations operating in the Agency’s observation network, where they were introduced to their technical characteristics, operating specifics and data collection process.

Experts on a working visit to Georgia held meetings with representatives of the Geology, Hydrology and Meteorology Departments of the National Environmental Agency and discussed issues related to the ongoing project.

The activity is part of a large-scale climate program, which is implemented with the support of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the Green Climate Fund (GCF), the governments of Georgia and Switzerland.
