The ICT system is one of the most important components of a modern early warning system. It allows for the prompt collection, processing, analysis of data received from various sources and the timely dissemination of relevant warnings, which is important both in terms of coordination between state agencies and informing the population.

A mobile application is also being introduced within the framework of the ICT system, which will allow citizens to quickly and easily receive information and warnings about expected weather and hydrometeorological threats.

The presentation of the Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) system was attended by the Head of the National Environmental Agency, Elene Ghubianuri, and her Deputy, Irakli Megrelidze, as well as international experts who conducted long-term trainings for the Agency's specialists. Certificates were awarded to the Agency's specialists in the relevant areas at the event.

“Rapid data processing, the development of artificial intelligence and the continuous improvement of numerical weather forecasting systems allow us to provide much more accurate and operational information about natural hazards to both state agencies and the population. This is another important step towards making Georgia more resilient, safer and better prepared for natural hazards,” said Elene Ghubianuri, Head of the National Environment Agency.

It is worth noting that the introduction of the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) system in Georgia was carried out with the support of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the Green Climate Fund-funded project “Expanding the Multi-Hazard Early Warning System and the Use of Climate Information in Georgia” and the Finnish Meteorological Institute.
