A working meeting was held within the framework of the ongoing project “Expanding the Early Warning System for Multiple Hazards and Utilization of Climate Information in Georgia” organized by the National Environmental Agency and supported by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).
The meeting was attended by the Head of the Agency, Elene Ghubianuri, Deputy Heads Irakli Megrelidze and Tamar Sharashidze, representatives of the donor organization, as well as representatives of all relevant state agencies within the Ministry.
The purpose of the meeting was to introduce the new Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) system implemented in the National Environmental Agency to the representatives of interested state agencies, which will further contribute to strengthening inter-agency cooperation and promoting the effective use of the capabilities of the ICT system within the framework of the early warning system.
The ICT system is one of the most important components of a modern early warning system. It allows for the prompt collection, processing, analysis and timely dissemination of relevant warnings from various sources, which is important both in terms of coordination between state agencies and informing the population.
It is noteworthy that the implementation of the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) system in Georgia was carried out with the support of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the Green Climate Fund-funded project “Expanding the Multi-Hazard Early Warning System and the Use of Climate Information in Georgia” and the Finnish Meteorological Institute.
