The National Environmental Agency presented a new ICT system and mobile application to representatives of the Racha-Lechkhumi-Kvemosvaneti region
Irakli Megrelidze, Deputy Head of the National Environmental Agency of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, held working meetings in the Racha-Lechkhumi-Kvemo Svaneti region. The meetings were held in the towns of Mestia, Lentekhi, Tsageri, Oni and Ambrolauri, where representatives of local governments, including villages, were presented with the new information and communication technologies (ICT) system and mobile application meteo.gov.ge implemented by the agency.
The purpose of the meetings was to familiarize representatives of municipalities with the capabilities of the ICT system and the mechanisms for its use, as well as to strengthen interagency cooperation and promote the effective use of the system.
The ICT system is one of the important components of a modern early warning system. It allows for the prompt collection, processing and analysis of data received from various sources, as well as the timely dissemination of relevant warnings. The system plays an important role in both coordination between state agencies and timely information of the population.
The Information and Communication Technology (ICT) system was implemented by the National Environment Agency with the support of the Finnish Meteorological Institute. The project “Reducing the Risk of Disasters Caused by Climate Change in Georgia” is being implemented with the co-financing of the Government of Georgia, the Green Climate Fund (GCF) and the Government of Switzerland, with the support of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).
The working meetings were attended by representatives of municipal mayors, councils and local self-governments.
The National Environment Agency will hold information meetings on the capabilities of the ICT system across the country, in all regions, in stages
