Black Sea waste monitoring is being carried out within the framework of the National Environmental Agency and BSC project

Within the framework of the grant project “For further reduction and prevention of marine litter generation in the Black Sea” signed between the National Environmental Agency and the Black Sea Pollution Control Commission (BSC), large-scale monitoring of Black Sea litter was carried out.
Within the framework of the monitoring, the litter on the seabed, sea surface and coastal strip in the Batumi water area was assessed. Within the framework of the project, a drone of modern standards was used for the first time to detect floating litter on the sea surface, which significantly increases the effectiveness of the monitoring process.
At this stage, the collected data is being processed and analyzed by the Agency’s specialists.
It is worth noting that the implementation of the project will significantly contribute to the phased implementation of the National Marine Litter Monitoring Program in Georgia, as well as to strengthening the institutional and regional capabilities for monitoring.
