The specialists of the National Environment Agency conducted comprehensive field geological studies in the Imereti region, specifically in the territories of Vani and Baghdati municipalities.
The main objective of the fieldwork was to identify geological processes occurring in the study areas, determine the extent of their distribution, and assess the existing conditions. The studies also included the identification and field assessment of landslides, debris flows, rockfalls, rockslides, erosion, and other geological processes.
Based on the results of the fieldwork and subsequent office-based analyses, an updated geological hazard database and geological hazard zoning maps for the municipalities of Vani and Baghdati will be prepared. These outputs will contribute to the identification of hazard-prone areas and support the planning of preventive measures.
The activity was carried out with funding from the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and support from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), within the framework of the ongoing project “Strengthening Climate Change Adaptation Capacities in Georgia – Phase 2.”
The initiative is part of a large-scale climate programme implemented with the support of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the Green Climate Fund (GCF), and Georgia and Switzerland.
