The second phase of coastal cleanup and marine litter monitoring in the Black Sea is underway within the framework of the grant project “Interventions Aimed at Further Reducing and Preventing Marine Litter in the Black Sea,” signed between the National Environmental Agency and the Black Sea Commission (BSC).

As part of the monitoring activities, Agency representatives and school students from Batumi, Kobuleti, and Khelvachauri municipalities are sorting waste collected along the coastline in Sarpi, Gonio, Kobuleti, and Grigoleti. The collected material will be used for further analysis and data processing.

During the second phase, the assessment of marine litter along the coastline and the collection of relevant data are continuing. The activity aims to support further reduction and prevention of marine litter, while also raising public awareness of these issues, particularly among young people.

The results of the monitoring conducted within the project will be important for the gradual implementation of the national marine litter monitoring programme and for strengthening regional monitoring capacities.
