Ramaz Chitanava, head of the meteorology department of the National Environment Agency, participated in the 65th plenary session of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) in Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia.
Within the framework of the session, the main attention was paid to the approval of the schedule for the preparation of the seventh assessment report of the IPCC and the use of artificial intelligence in the activities of the organization.
During the discussions, the importance of artificial intelligence in the process of systematization of the worldwide published scientific literature on climate change and the analysis of large volumes of data was noted.
The IPCC's Seventh Assessment Report will bring together updated scientific knowledge on climate change and provide an important basis for global climate decision-making. The scientific findings presented in the report are also important for Georgia, as they will contribute to the development of scientifically based measures for mitigating possible negative consequences caused by climate change and adaptation to changes, and the implementation of an effective national policy in the field of climate.
The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) was established in 1988 by the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO). The organization unites 195 member states and evaluates scientific, technical and socio-economic information related to climate change. Its activities include studying the scientific basis of climate change risks, possible impacts, ways of adaptation and mitigation.
