The National Environment Agency has submitted a report to the Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Committee of the Parliament of Georgia on the enforcement of the Law of Georgia on Aquaculture and the elaboration of by-laws in accordance with the law.

Representatives of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture and the National Environment Agency talked over in detail about the importance of the Law on Aquaculture, as well as its benefits, both in terms of reducing import dependence and in economic terms.

The report provided complete information on the elaborated by-laws, which includes the establishment of a maritime zone for the management of aquaculture (including mariculture) in Georgia, as well as its management and ecological monitoring procedures.

The development of aquaculture significantly depends on proper and efficient use of natural water resources in the country. Georgia is distinguished by favorable conditions for the development of aquaculture, including mariculture.

The above mentioned law will help to increase the production of aquaculture products in the country, which is an important resource for ensuring employment, income and economic growth, as well as attracting investments in this sector.

It is important that the Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Committee will continue to oversee the implementation of the Georgian Law on Aquaculture in the future.
