The General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean has recognized the research of anchovy stocks carried out by the specialists of the National Environment Agency

The specialists of the National Environment Agency of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture conducted hydroacoustic study of anchovy stocks in the territorial waters of the Black Sea coast of Georgia.

The study was carried out using modern methodology and equipment, thus enabling the specialists of the National Environment Agency to determine the stock in accordance with EU standards and the requirements of the General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean.

During the research, the agency's specialists recorded and accounted for an accurate quantity of the exact number of anchovy clusters with a specialized scientific-research echo sounder of American production. At the same time the study of sea hydrological indicators was carried out, as well as fish samples were taken and the age and size-weight indicators of the anchovy population were assessed and the stock of major commercial species was determined.

The study, conducted by specialists of the National Environment Agency, has first been recognized by the General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean (GFCM) of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).

Based on the research, it is possible to fully assess the reserves of the Black Sea major commercial species - anchovy and ensure its sustainable use that will contribute to the development of the fishing industry, economic growth and employment of local population in the country.
