Photo traps were installed to protect the automatic stations of hydrogeological monitoring and to identify the perpetrators of vandalism act
Geology
The National Environment Agency has equipped the underground water automatic stations of the underground freshwater monitoring network with photo traps.
The installation of photo traps was conditioned by the frequent cases of damage and robbery of automatic stations in different parts of Georgia.
Using the photo traps, it will be possible to identify the perpetrators of vandalism act, protect stations from damage, in some cases, destruction, and ensure their safe operation. It should be noted that the automatic stations of the groundwater freshwater monitoring network stations are mainly located in uninhabited areas and near rivers. Consequently, it was difficult to fully protect them. The financial loss caused by the damage to the stations exceeds tens of thousands of GEL. For each case of vandalism in the relevant departments, several criminal cases were initiated based on the statement of the National Environmental Agency.
The operation of these stations serves to protect the security of the population of our country. With the help of automatic devices, the National Environment Agency continuously provides data on the increase of water levels in various rivers and the amount of atmospheric precipitation in the surrounding area. According to the information received from the stations, the main quantitative and qualitative characteristics of groundwater are being determined, the ultimate goal of which is to provide quality drinking water to the local population in the long run.
The National Environmental Agency once again calls on the population to stop vandalism that destroys state property, which is important for every citizen of our country.
