The National Environmental Agency of the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture, with the support of the European Union, has purchased a portable water-based CTD drive station.

The station is an independent system, located for the first time in the Black Sea of Georgia and designed to monitor water quality. The device will measure marine parameters online via GPRS communication and data will be available to the Fisheries, Aquaculture and Aquatic Biodiversity and Environmental Pollution Monitoring Departments.

In the first stage, the station identifies three main components: water el. Conductivity, temperature and depth, which allows for the first time in Georgia, continuous monitoring of water in the Black Sea. These studies, in turn, will help assess and model fish stocks.

With the support of the European Union, the National Environmental Agency of the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture of Georgia is implementing an important project, "Promoting Technological Innovations in Environmental Monitoring and Modeling for Fish Stocks and Non-Fishery Resources" (TIMMOD). There is a refinement of the evaluation system. As part of the project, the agency purchased an ultra-modern station located in the Black Sea and will continuously share information on water quality and other important parameters.

It is noteworthy that, within the framework of the same project, Georgian specialists were able to participate in various international practical trainings or seminars, which helps to strengthen their capabilities, "- said the Deputy Minister of Environment and Agriculture, Nino Tandilashvili.

The Marine Survey Organizers, together with the National Environmental Agency, are partners in the project "Promoting Technological Innovation in Environmental Monitoring and Modeling for Assessing Fish Stocks and Non-Fishery Resources" (Black Sea-Danube Research and Development Association (BDCA)). And the Institute of Fish Resources (IFR).
